- The Gibson is expanding its space and throwing a Halloween party that will make yours seem dry by comparison. Their "Corpse Revival" shindig THIS SATURDAY boasts an open bar from 8:30-2:30, food, pumpkin carving and zombie costume contest with prizes. Tickets are $75 including tax and tip. Are you balking at the cost? Think of it this way - you'd spend that on any other night for less than seven drinks, not including tip. This is an open bar. An open bar that's not Zelko vodka and Schlitz. You're welcome.
- Everyone's getting into the Mad Men and cocktails bit, even the Grille at Morrison House in Old Town. They are hosting a smashing event that will certainly get you smashed: a four-part food, wine, and style series that covers cigars, whiskey, beer, meat carving, cocktails and wine pairings. January 27, 7:00pm, $80 per class. It's a ways away but expect it to sell out quickly.
- The Museum of the American Cocktail is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Daiquiri at the Occidental Grill on Thursday, November 19th. Join Derek Brown and Phil Greene of the Museum of the American Cocktail for a seminar on the Daiquiri, featuring renown author and Tiki expert Jeff "Beachbum" Berry and local mixologist Jon Arroyo from Farmers and Fishers. $40.
- Michael Landrum and his meat-laden "Ray's" empire is moving into the wine business with Ray's Retail Wine. Now you can buy fine wine without leaving your house...or firing up your computer! Order by the case from Ray's, with some help from their sommelier Mark Slater, and pick it up. Done. If you're not into cases they'll also sell by the bottle.
- Get crunk off Dan Aykroyd's Crystal Skull Vodka this Halloween, which is "filtered through diamonds". Pssh, yeah right, Dan. Just like East of Eden could be called a "semi-watchable" movie. Whatever, it's pretty and would make a nice conversation piece year-round. Vodka available at Best Cellars in Dupont.

- Item of the week: Italian wine glasses from Fishs Eddy in Brooklyn. I just got this in the mail on Tuesday and I can't stop looking at them. I also shake my fist at them because I purchased them the day before they went on sale, which is inconvenient for me but good for you. Anyways, for you folks that studied abroad for a semester in (insert European country here) and just looove to talk about it, you'll know what I'm talking about. These glasses are approximately 6oz and stemless, resembling small juice glasses. In Italy and Spain more often than not your wine will arrive in one of these short stemless beauties rather than the lanky stemmed variety. Some bistros in the US also serve wine in these glasses, but they're few and far between. I've been searching for years for these glasses as they're functional, pretty to behold and easier to clean than my big Bordeaux glasses. They're also classier than drinking out of a plastic cup or in my case, an old fashioned glass because I'm too lazy to hand wash my wine glasses and they won't fit in the dishwasher. They are a wee bit twee but that's alright by me. Get all six for under $30!

God loves a cheerful giver.
