This week more wine bars are doing good, we’re all going OMGZ over a potential watering hole in Bloomingdale and Locolat is pouring but they still look like LOLcat to me.
- Vinoteca will donate 15% of its total happy hour sales to the Clinton-Bush Haiti Relief Fund as part of its Happy Hour for Haiti. For every $5 you donate to charity (outside of your happy hour tab), you’ll get a raffle ticket entering you to win a $100 gift certificate. Hurry because this is only through Valentine’s Day! Also hurry because it’s physically impossible to get a seat after 6:00 PM on any given night!
- Should a Christian drink alcohol? “(9) Because it is safe to assume that several Christians, such as Timothy, in the New Testament chose to abstain, then choosing to abstain is following good Christian models.” This makes me wish I’d read the New Testament more so I could offer up a rebuttal. Instead all I can offer is “yo dude, what about water into wine?”
- I have seen this photo on dozens of blogs, cocktail websites, and have even used it a few times myself. It’s like the village bicycle of stock cocktail photos:

- Locolat’s license came through so now you can enjoy Belgian beer with your chocolate (which really doesn’t sound appetizing to me right now) whilst gazing at photos of some woman who looks like she got beaten in the face with chocolate. Mike Tyson jokes start…now.
- Just kidding. Beating women is never funny.
- And neither is Mike Tyson.

- Check out the Cocktail Hall of Fame. Impress your friends and charm the ladies by becoming a member and waxing philosophical about drinks such as the Old Fashioned.
- Social is offering an Olympic deal that will make you forget (or realize) how awful (awesome) curling truly is: from 2/12-2/18 they’re offering $4 Bronze, Silver and Gold Margaritas in the Cellar on days the U.S. wins medals of that metal (or you can be like me and drink Sidecars while watching The Cutting Edge, same difference).
- Pap & Petey’s has become Toyland at 4th and H NE. Check it out this weekend and next for soft opening specials and compare notes. Is $8 too much for a cocktail over there?
- We Love DC breaks down the rules for buying alcohol online. Most stores in town will special order for you and deliver it for free, and sometimes they can get around the funkier rules (like penalties breaking a case).
- The New York Times declares that it was an awesome decade for cocktails. Hear hear. Also front and center is the photo for an Aviation, the drink you all should be drinking. Right now.
- Everyone’s going nuts for AM Wine Shoppe in Adams Morgan. Looks nice yes, but frankly this seems more at home in Old Town. I very well might change my tune once I try one of their sandwiches.
- …and everyone lost their shit this week at the prospect of having a bar in Bloomingdale. The Prince of Petworth post isn’t winning any Pulitzers, but the comments are worth the read.
- The most wonderful time of the year is two weeks away: DC Food and Wine Fest.

Danielle, Mike Tyson is frequently funny:
“These books ain’t window dressing. I think Machiavelli’s the most sophisticated writer outside of Shakespeare. Way ahead of his time. Such a manipulative person. Everything he accomplished he did by kissin’ ass.”

January 28, 2010 at 1:32 pmit’s just a wine store!
January 28, 2010 at 2:26 pmwell, like i said i haven’t been but my understanding is people are into it because of their food.
January 28, 2010 at 2:48 pmIf you live in Adams Morgan you should give AM wine shop a try. It is locally owned. Two of the partners from Cashions. Wines are good and the food is pretty spot on.

I walked past the AM wine shop yesterday, and frankly-it doesn’t look all that special. My heart still belongs to De Vinos.
