Brightest Young Things

Let's start this off with a little music:

This brings you back to either 1.) late December 1963 2.) a really bad wedding/bar mitzvah or 3.) your junior high dance, doesn't it? I picked this because believe it or not, allegedly this song was initially written to celebrate the end of Prohibition. Frankie Valli didn't like that and asked that the lyrics be changed to reflect a young man losing his virginity.

For today let's pretend it's still about the end of Prohibition, which will be celebrated in earnest (to put it lightly) tomorrow at the Repeal Ball.

Why the big fuss? The (ridiculous, puritanical, anti-American...) amendment prohibiting the sale and manufacture of alcohol in the U.S. was repealed 76 years ago on Saturday. Next time you open a cold one, uncork your favorite wine, order a $10 cocktail from Gibson, or nip some Mad Dog 20/20 out of a paper bag, thank your lucky stars that imbibing alcohol is no longer a crime. Also be glad you didn't live in Prince Edward Island, as they had banned the sale and consumption of alcohol for 48 years. They went through two World Wars without a gin and tonic. Think about that.

Some of DC's finest (including Gina Chersevani, Derek Brown and Todd Thrasher) will be there at PS7's  knocking 'em back in black tie.  At this time(9:00AM) tickets are still available for General Admission ($100) and VIP ($150)  which gets you "exclusive access to DC's top bartenders" and access to VIP after parties around town.

If you have upwards of $100 to spend, black tie couture and are free tomorrow make this a priority. You won't regret it (though you may not remember it).

God loves a cheerful giver.
