This Saturday people from around the area gathered for the Taste of Georgetown. This rainy day was brightened with good food, good drink and some excellent people watching. Chris Svetlik and I wandered around and check out the scene and the eats.
Some of the first people we ran into were Amanda McClements of Metrocurean and Nycci Nellis of The List Are You On It. Each of these lovely women was participating in her fifth year as judge for Taste of Georgetown and had the enviable, but daunting, task of tasting and ranking 50 individual dishes being served that day.
The winners of Taste of Georgetown were: Olive oil poached octopus from soon-to-open Morso, Clyde’s lobster roll and Bourbon Steak’s butterscotch pudding.
When asked how they prepare for a day of tasting and judging and what they thought of the winning dishes, the ladies responded:
Amanda McClements:
“This was my fifth year judging. My routine goes: morning oatmeal, one bite of the bad stuff, eat all of the good stuff, disco nap and then I’m ready for dinner. The winners were my favorites. Morso’s octopus was a real stand-out. I mean plenty of restaurants royally screw up octopus, so the fact the Ed Witt was cooking it at a street fair and it turned out so delicious was impressive.”
Nycci Nellis:
“I prepare for eating 50 dishes the same way I do for 5. I eat for a living, so it’s just about small bites and powering through. With Taste of Georgetown you’re not just judging on taste though. It’s the overall value and presentation of what is being offered at the event. The lobster roll for example, was a wonderful value for the cost. All of the judges were in agreement on the winning dishes. ”

It rained, but the goods still shined. Crepes were great! Bourbon still rocks. Agraria’s Chocolate covered Bacon, well, was everything you can probably imagine that it would be, and TOTALLY worth it (kindof)
Flying Dog poured Gonzo and DoggieStyle and ran out SUPER fast, like a LIGHT’NIN BLAST, and YOU KNOW we let the people know about BENTZENBALL.
