Freebie madness continues today as Dunkin’ Donuts offers any customer a free iced coffee at its locations across the country. From 10:00am until 10:00pm, the company will offer free 16-ounce iced coffees to anyone who asks. The only downside is that you will have to look at posters of Rachel Ray plastered across participating locations.
So far, the past month has seen free ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s and deeply-discounted scoops from both Baskin’ Robbins (attached to Dunkin Donuts shops in DC) and Haagen-Dazs.

May 15, 2008 at 11:11 amSweet. I was going to go to Market Lunch at Eastern Market for softshell crabs, but since both of these shitty chain stores have presences on the Navy Yard I’m going to free lunch it today…
except I don’t eat chicken or drink Dunkin’s crappy coffee, and I hate the lines that form whenever free shit is dispensed.
Softshell crab sandwich it is!
May 15, 2008 at 11:36 amGreat, another chain seeks new suckers for substandard fare. Shit that is free is still shit.
Support your local coffee shop or bakery instead.

who complains about someone trying to give you free coffee? if you don’t want any, don’t go to dunkin donuts. cool out y’all.
May 15, 2008 at 12:07 pmSpeaking of local bakeries, I was in Charm City two weekends ago and Fractured Prune had donated dozens upon dozens of donuts. I am normally not a donut (or doughnut) eater but these were the best things I’d ever had (as far as the breakfast pastry genre goes). I even remarked that we should have them open a store in D.C. they were so good.
I was told that they did have a store in D.C, but it was in that shitty black hole of an area into which I do not venture (namely Foggy Bottom (I also do not venture into that other shitty black hole: Georgetown). Yes I know they technically were “Dupont Circle” but I consider P St South of the circle and all areas west as a black hole of crap).
Then I learn today that they’ve already closed up shop.
*shakes fist*
Had they opened up on 11th St in Columbia Heights they’d still be open, but no one listens to me ever.
May 15, 2008 at 12:11 pmFlames on the fire: it seems counterproductive to whine about all of the perceived whining.
Moral/cultural relativism is nice enough, but not everything is good or worthy. Without any contrary opinions, it all ends up as one big digital circle jerk.
May 15, 2008 at 1:20 pmi just got an iced coffee and a donut for $0.85 and it was awesome. over and out.
May 15, 2008 at 2:21 pmMaybe so, it just seemed like an inordinate amount of complaining about someone offering something for free.
Michael: I think the Fractured Prune went out because of all the construction going on in that stretch of P street–a lot of the businesses were hit really hard because their entrances were kind of obstructed by all the construction. You’re right about 11th St…the place would have had lines out the door like some Georgetown Cupcake shit had it opened there instead.
