The waistlines of Washington barely survived the onslaught of free Ben & Jerry’s ice cream when they were confronted with additional free foodie giveaways. The early summer promotions of eateries just didn’t stop. First came nickle-cheap Baskin’ Robbins followed by Rita’s Italian Ice, free Krispy Kreme donuts and Dippin’ Dots (okay, no one eats Dippin’ Dots). New frozen-yogurt shop TangySweet lobbied, what was thought, was a final freebie last Friday with free samples at its location at 21st and P Streets, NW.
You might want to hold on to your hemlines.
This week, Chipotle has mailed cards for free burritos to thousands of residents in Northwest Washington. Slightly matching their offer is the Subway sandwich shop franchise at 14th and Rhode Island Avenue in Logan Circle. Hastily made signs in the shop window note that the location will be closed after today. However, they are practically giving away sandwiches at $2 a pop, or $3 for a foot-long. And this is any sandwich. Subway may have launched a national ad campaign touting “Five Dollar Footlongs” but walk into any franchise and you are usually greeting with a number of asterisks noting that the special doesn’t apply to half their menu.

Jared: “Wanna see my five dollar footlong?”
Its unclear what is shuttering the Logan Circle franchise. Next door, the closure of Hamburger Mary’s next door watered down retail foot traffic on the busy block . And construction has knocked out a local pupusaria across the street and two bodegas on the block. What was a lively block a year ago has slowly shifted into a temporary deadzone.
“Hurry Up” reads the sign in the plate-glass window of the Subway franchise. The special ends today.
$2 sandwiches. $3 foot-longs. (through today, June 17)
Subway sandwich shop - Logan Circle location only
14th and Rhode Island Avenues, NW

Why’s Shitpotle only pushing their tex-mex on the Northwest? Sounds like Quadrantism to me.
