Brightest Young Things

If wine and cocktails are too high-falutin' for you, consider yourself in luck! DC's (true inaugural) beer week starts this Sunday with a kickoff "Unity Jam" at Rock and Roll Hotel and culminates in beer specials at RFD and a Nats-Brewers game. Few things in life are quite so manly as this week full of events.

There are dozens of events, and you can check this out for the full listing. The highlights, one for each day (because there are seriously so many to choose from):

MONDAY

Big Hunt: This event is billed as "Sausage, Cheese and Beer Night". Sign me up. Allagash, Bells, Brooklyn, Dogfish Head, Rogue Ales, Troegs, and Victory will be served. 7:00pm.

TUESDAY

Saint-Ex: Brooklyn Brewery Beer and Cheese Tasting with Cowgirl Creamery. I think I screamed a little out loud when I read this. Brooklyn Brewery is double-teaming with Cowgirl Creamery at 7:00pm to blow your mind with beer and cheese.

 WEDNESDAY

Marvin: Even more Belgian beer (Singles, Doubles, Triples and Quadrupels, oh my!) and even more Southern-style comfort food for $35. 5:30pm. Get there early.

THURSDAY

National Zoo: It's "Brew at the Zoo"! Sample beer from 35 microbreweries, food from Armand's Pizzaria/Hard Times Cafe/Rocklands BBQ, and most importantly drink until you can't drink no mo' and hang out in the seal den, laughing hysterically because they make funny noises. 6pm, $50 if you're not FONZ ($35 otherwise). If you can't make it there go to Asylum's after party at 9:30 for beer and more hilarity.

FRIDAY

National's Stadium: Not everyone is a baseball fan (yours truly included), which probably makes them worthless America's past time-hating Communists. Even if you happen to be a baseball-hating Communist you can still check out the game for discounted prices and heckle Teddy Roosevelt (bring your red party cards!). Mention "Beer Weel" when you buy the tickets for your discounted mezzanine and reserved seats.

God loves a cheerful giver.

Brew in the Zoo makes me ponder getting a "young professional" FONZ membership.

Anyone else want to start attending FONZ events with me and my better half? It's almost like being a moma member, except less luxurious and sophisticated.

Also, the only place to be on Monday is HOP TIMES IN THE CITY!!!

"Black Squirrel and DC BEER’s Hop Times in the City! Join DC Beer and The Black Squirrel as we test the extent to which peoples taste buds can handle hoppiness. Avery, Green Flash, Speakeasy, Dogfish Head and Bear Republic beers will be served as well as hop flavored BBQ dishes, a hop infused cocktail and hop icecream. $40 for the tasting and food, with discounts on all the sampled beer for the rest of the night. 7:30 to 10 PM"

Jesus, I love puns.

Must Disagree. Tuesday's event highlight is this one:

H Street:

Argonaut is hosting Abita Beer and Crawfish Boil: Abita Brewing Co. is brewery from the city of New Orleans. Chef Matthew Anderson of the Argonaut is known for his coastal cuisine and will be unleashing this customary communal dining experience for attendees. 6PM

Provided it's all you can eat mudbugs of course.
Unfortunately I can't seem to find a cost nor what the deal with the crawdaddies are.

FONZ is worth it just for brew at the zoo and grapes with the apes. seriously.

and as much as I love Black Squirrel, I HATE hoppy beer. hence the lack of mention. and DCist is already plugging it, so there.

Also, get things going a little early with tonight's beer tasting competition @ Bar Louie

The only problem with the Shirmp and Crawfish boil is that abita doesn't make any great beers. They're all palatable but forgetable. Still $30 for all you can eat and drink is a steal!

i just heard that their are no seats for the argo's abita crawfish boil. they're trying to figure out increased seating now.

I prefer this plan for Tuesday:

Rogue Oregon Oyster and Ale Festival at The Reef
Yequina Bay Oysters are being flown in for this pairing of great food (including other non-Oyster dishes) and Rogue beer. Brutal Bitter and Oysters? Yes, please. 5-10 p.m.
