Cale’s Guide to Frozen Sugar Water - Summer Flavor Update!

July 14, 2008 by Cale Send to a Friend Send to a Friend

A quick summer update on some new offerings at Rita’s Italian Ice. Please prep yourself by reading our initial guide here:
http://www.brightestyoungthings.com/food/free-ritas-italian-ice-cales-guide-to-frozen-sugar-water/

3 new flavors have been introduced, the first was Sweet Tea. Now I have this theory that you had to grow up drinking iced tea as a child to really enjoy it. You can’t just become a tea drinker later in life.  I don’t know why, but my mom just didn’t whip out the iced tea during the summers. I’ve tried to become a tea drinker for years, and it just doesn’t do it for me. It’s not bad, but I’m just not excited about it. So the sweet tea ice was about the same. I had someone who was a big ice tea drinker and he assured me it was awesome and that I was retarded. Seems to go well with raspberry and lemonade.  A biased 2 out of 5 stars.

Here is me 6 months ago: Dear baby Jesus, please please make peach flavored Rita’s.  Seriously.
And now we get Georgia Peach. I’m going to give myself all the credit. It’s phenomenal. Up there with the best fruit flavors. I’d suggest going with a gelati over a Blendini though, the vanilla custard peach combo is good, but the separation is preferred. 5 out of 5 stars.

Oh, such sweet, juicy joyfulness indeed!  Much like Shorts IIIII.

And finally on July 4th we got Key Lime.  Sounds nasty-bo-jasty, but it’s actually not half bad.  Goes well with vanilla custard. 4 out of 5 stars.

Coming in August: Cotton Candy
and in the Fall: Pumpkin

I’m designating pumpkin as as hi-pot flavor (that’s short for high-potential). Imagine a pumpkin ice vanilla custard blendini with nilla wafer bits simulating a pumpkin pie.  Just imagine it!  Cotton Candy on the other hand will most likely be too artificial tasting to be a strong contender (think Birthday Cake), but it could be a surprise hit like Key Lime.

Hot Summer Tip: Pick up a party bucket of Passion Fruit and mix in some rum for your next pool-side get together!

Nicole Says:

I was wondering how the Key Lime was. And I’m rather excited for the pumpkin.

As for the iced tea theory, I agree. I grew up an unsweet iced tea drinker (my mom drank it unsweet so thats what I got - and in the south no less). To this day people are often mortified when I drink unsweet tea and/or refuse their offers for sugar packets. Seriously, even the slightest twinge of sweetness in my tea makes me gag. Ew.

Cale’s “Free Rita’s” post introduced me to Ritas. I’ve come to take his word on Rita’s as gospel.

The Bowie Superior Lane location is what’s good.

I used to steal money from my roommates and walk down the street to get nice with gelatos.

it bother’s me that the peach and mango are the exact same color.

also, i liked sweet tea when i was little but wan’t allowed to drink it and i don’t like it now, or any tea for that matter.

i don’t know how i feel about pumpkin ice, i love pumpkin ice cream, but i’ll give it a go when it comes out.

Cale Says:

The picture is misleading, in reality the peach is quite a few shades lighter than the mango.
