Brightest Young Things

Today's cocktail is a fruity melange of whiskey and assorted berries, much like your alcoholic gay uncle. The DVD release of The State has put me in a good mood this morning and if you don't share my sentiment (and fondness for the creamy potato chowder bit) then this cocktail will certainly lift your spirits or get seeds stuck between your teeth. ¡Disfruta la fruta!

This has no bearing whatsoever on this cocktail, I just really like Daisy Miller

Whiskey Daisy

  • 1 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 3/4 tsp sugar
  • 3/4 oz grenadine
  • 2 oz Rye whiskey or Bourbon
  • 1/2 egg white (optional)

Shake the above in a shaker with ice and strain. Add fruit and berries (cherries and oranges are common but feel free to go a little crazy. Throw in some starfruit or another crazy-ass, why-does-this-exist fruit like that. I would avoid mixing cantaloupe and Bourbon, though). Of course, this drink will taste different depending on whether or not you use Rye or Bourbon Whiskey and if you choose to use a 1/2 egg white. The egg white gives it some foam and a nice thickness, but feel free to leave it out if you think it's gross (keep in mind though that if you leave it out this is essentially a Whiskey Sour with whatever fruit you decide to throw in there!).

God loves a cheerful giver.
