Earlier in the month I featured the Depth Bomb Cocktail, dating back to the Savoy Cocktail Book. Today I bring you another submariner-themed drink, the Torpedo. There are a few different drinks floating around with the name "Torpedo" but this one dates from 1930.
The (Savoy) Torpedo again blends Brandy and Calvados, but this time adds gin into the mix. How much gin you use is up to you, the original recipe calls for a dash, go a bit heavier if you don't mind the added flavor.
Torpedo Cocktail (Savoy, 1930)
- Dashes gin
- 1/2 oz Brandy
- 1 1/2 oz Calvados
Shake with ice in a shaker, strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Serve this and the Depth Bomb cocktail at your submarine themed cocktail party, featuring classic films such as Das Boot, Run Silent Run Deep, and maybe the Hunt for Red October.
