Brightest Young Things

I've been searching for a cocktail that goes well with this video ("Evident Utensil", Chairlift). Something colorful, tasty, and gets you drunk pretty fast.

I haven't been able to get this song out of my head since last Sunday; the music sounds like Siouxsie Sioux and PJ Harvey stole Vince Clark's synthesizer and ran away together to some foggy moor to do a shit ton of acid. The lyrics, to be honest, sound like they were written by a fresh-off-the-boat immigrant with barely 20 words of English memorized or a petulant fifth grader who thinks she's good at angst-y poetry. Whatever, sometimes lyrics don't really matter. It helps to have an amazing music video that makes you think you're on drugs (without all the work of procuring said drugs):

Stars In Your Hair

  • 1 oz gin
  • 3/4 oz fruit liqueur/cordial (I used Raspberry liqueur)
  • 3/4 oz white creme de menthe

Shake in a cocktail shaker with ice and strain, serve in a cocktail glass. The flavor changes dramatically based on the liqueur you use; obviously Poire liqueur will be wildly different from Framboise, the only similarity being the massive amounts of sugar both provide. Try to choose a flavor that will go well with mint. Raspberry is okay, cherry tastes too much like something they'd put on my teeth at the dentist's office, and anything herbal (e.g. Chartreuse) could be very, very nasty.

God loves a cheerful giver.
