Have you noticed a theme this week with creme de cassis and lemon juice? Great. Who wants to go on a liquor store run with me? My closest/favorite liquor store, Metro on Columbia Road, gets held up pretty frequently and I hate going alone.

Saguenay Cocktail
- 1 oz light rum
- 1 oz dry vermouth
- 1/4 oz creme de cassis
- 1/4 oz fresh lemon juice
Shake all ingredients and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Rum is making its resurgence thanks to some dedicated bartenders and people who are unafraid of sipping drinks containing tiny umbrellas. According to the New York Times, we're in for a resurgance of fun, happy-go-lucky, brightly technocolored cocktails reminscent of 1950s-1960s swing rather than the tweeded-up Mad Men inspired cocktail dens of now. As fun as rum is, I for one hope that the 1950s kitsch stops here before we all start wearing Hawaiian shirts and put "Swingers" on our Netflix queues. We already lived through 1997 once. Let's not do that again.
God loves a cheerful giver.
The only real way to drink rum:
