Astronaut salutes America, booze, and the hit single “I Want You Back”, by the boy who would be the King of Pop.

I can’t believe I didn’t feature this drink sooner, either for the moon landing celebration or in memory of Michael Jackson. Better late than never, though. Like the manned moon walk, this drink recently celebrated it’s 40th anniversary. The Moon Walk cocktail was created in 1969 by Joe Gilmore at the Savoy Hotel in London. According to lore this was also the first cocktail drank by the astronauts upon their return. That facet seems unlikely (LIKE THE MOON LANDING, eh?), but this is a great summer refreshment. 

Moon Walk Cocktail

• 1 oz grapefruit juice
• 1 oz Grand Marnier
• dashes rose water
• champagne

Mix first three ingredients in a flute and fill with champagne.
