In celebration of the awesome Bulleit bourbon tasting at Little Miss Whiskey's tonight, I present a cocktail that uses bourbon. In fact, this cocktail combines bourbon with red wine, which is what got my attention. Add in a DC area joke (marionberry), and we have a winner.

The Languedoc Bramble is a 'contemporary' cocktail, coming to your glass from the brain of Jamie Boudreau of spiritsandcocktails.com.
Jamie used Fat Bastard Shiraz to make this, I did not. I used a Washington State syrah, but that's just my own personal preference. I went against the name "Languedoc" by not using a French syrah, since the name refers to the region in Southern France. I also learned what a marionberry is--a crossbred type of blackberry that might become the official berry of Oregon.
Languedoc Bramble
- 2 oz syrah
- 1 oz marionberry or blackberry puree
- 1 oz bourbon
- 1/2 oz lemon juice
Shake with ice, strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with blackberries.
God loves a cheerful giver.
