Brightest Young Things

A little bird (read: Weather.com) told me that temperatures may reach 70 this weekend. Admittedly that's a little high but dammit I am ready for some Spring. Nothing says "Spring" quite like "Spring Break" and nothing says "Spring Break" quite like this drink (and maybe the Fat Sailor).

Florida Special

  • 3/4 oz Orange Juice
  • 1/2 oz Maraschino Liqueur (I cheated and used Kirschvasser)
  • 1/4 Red Curaçao* (or triple sec, more on this below)
  • 1 1/2 oz gold rum

Shake over crushed ice in a shaker, strain into a chilled cocktail glass and watch the first two seasons of Laguna Beach (or The OC which I think is more enjoyable) and relax. It's like you're back in college already, looking forward to Spring Break and losing yourself in mindless television back when people had money to spend recklessly and there was a point in time where you didn't work a full-time job. In fact, they gave you a Spring vacation! And summers off, too!

*Red Curaçao is identitcal in taste to its Blue Curaçao buddy. The only difference being - of course - the color. Curaçaos (there's an Orange one too) are made from the juice of oranges grown - no shit - in Curaçao. Triple sec is made from a variety of Haitian oranges so the taste is similar but not quite, suitable as a stand-in only.

God loves a cheerful giver.
