We’ve all heard ridiculous cocktail names before (Sex on the Beach, Gorilla Fart, etc.) but this one takes the cake for being arbitrary and nonsensical. The drink itself however is great. I was looking to use up the last of my brandy and this did the job nicely. Is this named for the movie of the same name? The Beach Boys song?

Don’t Go Near The Water

• 1 1/2 oz brandy
• 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
• 1/4 oz maraschino liqueur
• 1/4 oz orange curacao

Shake with ice in a shaker and strain into a cocktail glass. Add a sugar rim and lemon twist. If maraschino liqueur is unavailable you can use kirsch or cherry heering but they’re only half as good. I like the sour taste and hint of cherry on this one and if it weren’t so strange (and possibly so obscure) I would order this out at bars.
