Brightest Young Things

I love love love tequila. There's something about tequila's smoothness, rich flavor and (in high quantities) ability to make you forget your own name that makes it legendary, as has been noted in this column before.

If you're bored of Tequila Sunrises (and how could you be, it's a perfect drink and it keeps scurvy at bay) try this one. And if you claim to hate tequila, try this anyways - it just might change your mind.

Chalino Special
3 oz white tequila
1/2 tablespoon creme de cassis
1/2 oz lemon juice
1/2 oz lime juice
1/2 tablespoon simple syrup

Shake well with ice in a shaker, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with lemon twist.  Lately instead of lime juice, or even using Rose's Lime (just too sweet) I've been using Simply Lime limeade and I've liked the results. Also it's imperative to use white tequila, not just for the color's sake but the taste. I found anything with aging will throw off the flavors on this guy. For a berry-flavored twist on a margarita, toss it into the blender for a few seconds (or just on the rocks).

God loves a cheerful giver.
