I found this and thought, "Bourbon and grape juice? That sounds like something marketed to kids". Of course, I had to try it.
Caterpillar
- 1 1/2 oz Bourbon
- 3/4 oz grape juice (I used white grape first and then dark purple Welch's)
- 1 dash Angostura bitters
Shake in a cocktail shaker with ice and strain into highball glass. I think I would have rather had the Bourbon and bitters. The white grape juice isn't terrible, it just tastes like really watered down Bourbon. The concord grape juice was terrible! The astringincy of the juice paired with the smoky Bourbon flavor is just terrible. Like mixing pie filling with barbecue sauce, kind of. Caterpillar, you failed me (or lived up to my low expectations, either/or).

because this has grape juice in it i have to mention the purple cow. it's a grape flavored milk shake. i know it sounds awful, but it's just grape juice and vanilla ice cream and is so delicious. i'm sure you could make it alcoholic if you really wanted to.
I often forget, but I love bourbon and apple juice. And I don't even like apple juice! (Though I do like bourbon, so......)
