Brightest Young Things

At some point H Street will have a pie shop. Maybe Friday...Likely Friday... But as with all things related to opening a new business in DC, it could be delayed. As a lead up to their official opening, the crew at Dangerously Delicious threw a party on Friday. A pie party. For a few hours they served up slices of their wares, offered keg beer (the good one was in back) and played some music.

Chris Chen was good enough to fight the crowds for some pictures of the shop and it's owner, Baltimore-based musician Rodney Henry. For a full listing of pies being offered, check out the list here. I highly recommend the Baltimore Bomb, a chocolate pecan pie, and the Cowboy Quiche, which shatters the myth that real men don't eat quiche.

Rodney was at the Drive By Truckers show tonight in New Braunfels, TX (between Austin and San Antonio) and couldn't have been nicer. Then he hopped on stage and rocked the fuck out with Patterson Hood according to Justin Jones (who opened.) And he's baking pies at SXSW this Friday. Amazing.

That was a damn fine show. Truckers are some cool cats. I left there and went straight to the Gallery above the Continental and Low and behold, the god damned coolest cat in Austin. Jimmy Vaughn. Fuckin' cool ass night. Just one in a Pie tour that just blew my mind at every turn. Pie and Rock-n-Roll kick ass.
