Disclaimer: When Mark (of Vandaveer) informed us that his other band, The Apparitions (of perfect pop songs and a thousand guitars) is taking over Iota over the weekend, along with his third band These United States (plus with a little help of their Bellman Barker and The Cotton Jones Basket Ride) we figured we should do something to mark the occasion.
BUT- we’ve already done a listening party on Vandaveer (click click), AND These United States (click click) AND Bellman Barker (click click), not to mention numerous other posts and co-posts so we asked them to come up with something original. What we got is coming at you right now, plus some MP3s below to make it all go down easier:

This is an interview in where I, Robby Cosenza of say, THE APPARITIONS (r-Apps) interviews Robby Catholic of say, THESE UNITED STATES (r-TheseUS).
(r.c. just don’t work, ‘eh?)

I conveniently meet up with myself in a large historic home directly located between the dormant University Of Kentucky campus and the crumbling downtown (see Equestrian Games 2010) of Lexington, Kentucky, USA. It is 12:47 am. Its raining. Hard.

r-Apps: Thanks for being here. Sorry it’s so late. Is this late for you?
r-TheseUS: Its fine. Not late for me, but late to be sitting infront of the computer.

r-Apps: What have you done today? Whats a normal day for Robby Catholic?
r-TheseUS: I woke up at 8-ish and borrowed a truck and went to the doctor. I went to Kroger to get my new medicine and then I went and put the remainder of my belongings into my friend Duane’s (Duane Lundy –producer of Apps / The Scourge Of The Sea / upcoming These US) attic. I got an ice cream with Echo and then went to the studio and worked on my drumbs. Then I meet up for pizza and beer ,more or less. Not a normal day.

r-Apps: What IS the normal day then?
r-TheseUS: Pizza and beer.

r-Apps: Pizza and beer, huh? Remember when you used to rehearse all the time? Write? Inspire?….
r-TheseUS: Yes, I remember. Remember sobriety, asshole? Jus ‘playin’dawg. (yer muh BOOOOY!) But seriously – The Apparitions are complicated. Mark (Vandaveer) lives in the District, and Eric (Killer Meteor) is in Killer Meteor. Bob Roberts has a 4-track and a green bong (and our keyboard which we want back –(why do I suddenly feel like Gollum)) . Justin does everything else with me except rehearse and get ice cream. We do not rehearse. Neither does These US. We feed off our emails and wind energy. Do you rehearse going to see live music?

r-Apps: No.
r-TheseUS: Then why should we rehearse for you?

r-Apps: So why in Gods name are we doing two shows at Iota in two days?
r-TheseUS: 4 shows in two days. 4.

r-Apps: Oh, yeah. Right. Were doing them because we love the babies. Don’t we?
r-TheseUS: We do. We love them. Each and every bay-bee(z).

r-Apps: What are your influe…..(r-TheseUS slaps r-Apps in the mental face. Hard.)
r-Apps: I’m reaaaally sorry. What are you mostly listening to?
r-TheseUS: Mostly my own shit. Also-The Sweet song Little Willy, the new Aimee Mann, the old Kitty
Hawk, Liz Clark. I think I like the new Beck, but you have yet to buy it for me so i dunno. Springsteen.

r-Apps: We type bad. Do you realize thuis has taken us almost 2 hrs now?
r-TheseUS: I do now, yes. I am very tired and pizza trodden and have to hop in the van first thing in the a.m. to hit the D.C. Then to hit you, hitting me. (we both sing “hitting you hitting me” in an ABBA-y waaaay). G’nite Robby. Sleep well.

r-Apps: G’ nite. I love you.
r-TheseUS: Damn, I love you too. You don’t say that enough.

r-Apps: I will. From now on. Every 5 min…..
r-TheseUS: Your Kuh-Raaazy…I Love you.
