So, yeah, sure it was kind of cloudy for the first 3 hours of Band Camp on Saturday. No Big Deal. We listened to Sonic Youth's new album (out tomorrow on Matador), made guitar necklaces and sand along to Nirvana pretending that we were in Seattle in 1992. Then come 3pm and the first rays of sun that started burning through the clouds the bands took the stage AND KILLED IT. If you missed it, you missed out. If you decided to brave it, we love you and thank you. All 90s covers all day. Spiritual Machine kicked things with some Beastie Boys, FFFever played both Sonic Youth covering Beach boys, Heartshaped box AND Spoonman (with Adrian from EXACTLY guest vocalling AND spoon playing), US Royalty brought us Oasis and Pearl Jam and worked Smashing Pumpkins so hard a fuse actually blew out, Laughing man did both Joy Division AND Tribe Called Quest, Casper Bangs banged out some very nice Sonic Youth memories on an ukulele, Last tide fuzzed out the whole pool and Stuart Lupton showed up last minute and brought down the house with his set of well, everything that is good.
In between we played Exactly MCed extreme twister (with increased difficulty and obstacles), swam around on the Millenium Falcon inflatables and I somehow managed to get sunburnt even though it was a little cloud AND I was fully clothed.
The party does not wait for weather.
SEE YOU EVERY SATURDAY.

hey BYT aficionados. my favorite wife and I just moved to WDC from LA about 6 weeks ago. she's a bigshot public radio honcho, and i'm writing my first book, at last, on the road to abolishing nuclear weapons forever. we got a humble little coop in SW, just five mins from the CapSky, so I discovered it early on. And I've been sitting poolside, sitting and writing, sitting and thinking, sometimes just sitting, and i'm there one saturday, and all YOU characters show up, with noise, raucous behavior, many distractions.
I wrote some of my best stuff that day.
thx!
