I initially ran this the day after my birthday in 2007. What followrd was one of the happiest, most glorious , satisfying concert experiences of my whole life. I swear. Ask Erik-he was there too. And now-Travis is back in town tomorrow so hells on bells, I am going to rerun it. Because I can. GO TO THIS SHOW. -Svetlana
We'll be frank,
we didn't interview Travis.
We did not even try, because, lets face it, it was bound to turn into one of those gentle but firm pr rejection letters telling us "that the band only does press interviews for the new album but they could send us the CD over for review". And we were not sure our poor hearts were ready for that. Plus, we don't need the new CD, we already bought it.
But, the fact of the matter is Travis is a terrific band, and have been a terrific band for over a decade now, and are playing a show tomorrow night at 930 club (it is a tad on the pricey side, we will admit, 40 dollars and all) AND WE ARE GOING. And are really excited.
Because, you know, there is something about a band you loved when you were 15, and you are still loving now, even if you all went through your overplayed phases, and your sappy phases and your "I am into Imperial Teen now" phases. As Bill, in all his infinite mood music wisdom, once told me, during a "makeout music" discussion (at the time Air Safari was scoring pretty high for him), "Travis is a pretty good make out band but you have to always remember that it is the kind of band you play to a girl you are trying to make fall in love with you". Because, chances, she might.
So, without further sap a-do (the cheese is ALREADY melting off the screen), I bring you their greatest hits: everything from Flowers in the Windo to Driftwood to Writing to Reach you (I am fighting tears away now) to Sing to Walking in The Sun to even Why does it Always Rain On Me? (because, now that it is no longer part of MTV commercials, you know, it is still a damn good song)
plus, a special bonus of their version of Hit Me Baby One More Time.
see you tomorrow night
God loves a cheerful giver.
I am STILL into Imperial Teen.
so am I, we should just never be forced to choose.
I'm going tonight! And yes, I too have loved them since I was 15 and I couldn't be more excited to see them.
i'll be there too...and you better believe that i will be weeping at some point in the evening as part of a full-on sappy travis lovefest! we will all dance and most certainly "sing, sing, sing......"
by the way, svet...i'm interviewing dougie tonight before the show...so, i'll get some scoop for byt. weeee!
best show i ever went to was Travis at 930. halfway through franny's like "we've been getting all these emails from this guy.....is there a bob in the audience?" dude comes up onstage, proposes to his girlfriend, she says yes, they start playing "flowers in the window". i think most people left floating an inch off the ground from that one.
this story just reduced me to a puddle of tears and renewed faith in humanity.
i was at that show too, and suffice to say, the moment was MAGICAL! oh travis...how you melt our hearts!
npr's all songs considered has the whole concert available on itunes.
I fucking love Travis and can't wait for the show tomorrow night. That is all.
