From Black Cat:
“We are beside ourselves with anticipation about this one – the First Lady of Rock-n-Roll herself, Ms. Wanda Jackson! A true legend, Jackson had her first record deal with Decca in 1954, before she was even out of high school. By 1955, she had already toured the South with a little-known Sun label recording artist named Elvis.
Jackson not only made waves on the charts, but she also brought a sense of glamour to the otherwise ultra-conservative country music business of the mid-50s. She vowed that her first appearance on the Grand Ole Opry would also be her last…because she was forced to cover up her shoulders before going on stage. Recalling the event, Wanda said “the dress had little rhinestone spaghetti straps and wasn’t too low-cut or anything…I was so mad I could hardly sing.” Jackson remained a mainstay in the country scene throughout the 60s and early 70s, despite her decision to stay in Oklahoma City instead of relocating to Nashville. She has recorded between 50 and 60 albums, first on Decca, then Capitol, and now on CMH Records.”
Performing with The Lustre Kings
