9-5, MONEYTOWN @ Dahlak, Miss Shing-A-Ling & Nitekrawler!

Although a native of South Korea, Miss Shing-A-Ling was raised in Buffalo, NY. She grew up garbage picking records off the streets of the suburbs and later developed an over all obsession for records of all genres, shapes and sizes. Her first exposure to the strange world of Northern Soul began shortly after she graduated highschool and moved to San Francisco, CA. She joined the Golden State Soul Club and attended Soul nights up and down the coast of CA.
She began DJing when she moved to NYC in late 90s. Upon her return to the East Coast, she began hosting her own resident Soul, Funk and Hiphop nights, contributing articles on the likes of the Universals, Charles Mintz and the first ever published interview of Sharon Jones & the Dapkings for The Big Daddy, Grand Slam and Togetherness Magazines. In 2003 her passion for Northern Soul inspired her to move to London, UK for a year where she worked full-time for Jazzman Records.
Now back in the States for over four years, she’s been a contributor to Soul Up North Magazine (featuring pieces on the Capsoul & Mo Do labels, interviews with Garnet Mimms, Jimmie Raye, etc.), working remotely for Jazzman (writing liner notes for the Lou Pride boxset & Soul Toronadoes boxset), DJing across the country, hosting the monthly Buffalo BBoy battle, continuing to act as a resident of the Subway Soul Club.
Expect a wide variety of funk & uptempo dancefloor friendly soul when Miss Shing-A-Ling controls the decks this month at Moneytown.

This party is so good… some of the best music in DC. Plus it’s not often you see a female holding it down with serious records!
