Welcome to the world of competitive high school table tennis, where speed and
endurance are important, but talent and heart are everything. Best friends Smile and
Peco have been playing ping pong together since childhood. Peco’s peculiar and brash
style contradicts Smile’s calm and introverted ways. Despite being clearly more mature,
Smile admires Peco’s inhibitions and looks up to him. The two are nothing but a
headache for their coach, Joe, who sees untapped potential in Smile and is trying to
recapture his own past glory by turning Smile into a champion.
Ping Pong features an ensemble cast of oddball characters, whose lives revolve around
this fast paced sport. The mixture of humor and sentimentality as well as Matrix-esque
special effects and intense action makes Ping Pong a movie to remember.
Ping Pong is based on the comic book by popular artist and author Taiyou Matsumoto.
His other movie adaptations include Tekkon Kinkreet and Blue Spring.
In Japanese with English Subtitles 114 minutes
This event is free and open to the public. Reservations are required.

Okay, this movie looks badass. Maybe it’s the weird Japanese asthetic, but I’m going – if only for a chance to see the Japanese embassy.
