16th Annual Environmental Film Festival
The Japan Information and Culture Center, Embassy of Japan is proud to once again participate in the Annual Environmental Film Festival in the Nation’s Capital. This year, the JICC presents one of Japan’s most famous ambassadors for environmental conscientiousness - Gojira. While well known for the images of a giant lizard destroying Tokyo, the Gojira films carry an earnest message about the responsibility man carries for the earth’s environment and the unknown repercussions of nuclear warfare. The film addressed many issues that concerned post war Japan about the fallout of two atomic bombs and how the country could recover from the devastation of war. Don’t miss this rare chance to see the original Gojira film from 1954 on the JICC screen. This is the film that started the apocalyptic atomic monster film craze of the 1950’s. This film also started the Gojira/Godzilla film series that remain popular to this day. In Japanese with English subtitles. 78 minutes. Reservations are required. Please call 202-238-6949 or send an email to jiccrsvpwinter08@embjapan.org
