A Conversation with Daniel Libeskind
Wednesday, June 18
7:00 p.m.

Chelsea School and Sixth & I present this conversation with internationally renowned architect Daniel Libeskind, who will discuss the ways in which architecture can memorialize — and reshape — human experience. As the son of Holocaust survivors and the nephew of one of the heroes of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, Libeskind is clearly influenced by his Jewish background. In a Jewish Currents interview, Libeskind explained, “I myself grew up as a Jew in postwar Poland under quite anti-Semitic circumstances. Certainly that museum [Jewish Museum, Berlin] is speaking, both backwards and forwards, to many issues that are part of my Jewish sensibility.” Among other projects, Libeskind designed the Jewish museums in Berlin and Copenhagen, and the Denver Art Museum. In 2003, he won the competition for the master plan to rebuild the World Trade Center site.

Following the conversation, which includes an open forum for question and answers, there will be a book signing. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased here. Discounted tickets for young professionals under 30 are $15 and can be purchased here. For group prices, send an e-mail or call 202/408-3100.
