As this popular South-African restaurant expands its presence in the DC Metropolitan area and beyond, its customers continue to rave about the high quality, flame-grilled chicken with explosive flavors, for which Nando's Peri Peri has been known since it first opened in 1987. The first Nando's Peri Peri opened its doors in 1987 outside of Johannesburg, South Africa. Since then, Nando's Peri Peri has opened restaurants in 34 countries, five continents, and today, has over 850 restaurants located around the world. In 2006, Nando's Peri Peri made moves and came to the United States, where it opened its first U.S. location in Washington, DC's Chinatown neighborhood.
