Actually all good music, all the time this week.
Never say I don’t love you again.

1. Xiu Xiu, “I Do What I Want When I Want”
A little while back we tried to interview Xiu Xiu. It didn’t really pan out but I think we should try again as (and I’m gonna do a quote here as I cannot say it better myself): this track contains inoffensive “do do do”’s and some happy xylophone-playing, runs them through a spooky electronic filter, and once again proves that Xiu Xiu write the catchiest non-catchy songs in indie rock.

2. Wakey Wakey, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”
You remember how a few years back Iron & Wine did a version of “Such Great Heights” which was good but somehow made me want to slit my wrists as opposed to dance around the room in my underpants, like the original version did?
Well, Wakey Wakey do that exact same thing to Cindy Lauper

3. Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, “Baltimore”
Loosey goosey, catchy, almost-Pavementy, and an ode to Baltimore to boot. You all will probably love it.

4. Magnetic Fields “California Girls”
New Magnetic Fields songs keep on leaking and leaking. If you are actually a California girl though, this may not be the most positive song about yourself to hear. Don’t let the joyous music fool you.

5.Fishboy “Proper Name Spelling Bee”
Fishboy is a total treat. They are so perky they should come with a pharmaceutical warning.
If you don’t like them you probably have no soul. Or sense of humor. Or….

6. MGMT “Time to Pretend”
Can we all please reach hands across DC and bring MGMT over to play a show so we can all dance the way dancing was intended to be? Every song of theirs I hear I heart. A lot.

7. Joy Zipper “Christmas Song”
This isn’t a free download per se, but it is hands down my favorite song involving Christmas of all time (in fact, the whole “American Whip” album is one of my favorite albums ever, I should do some sort of “overlooked music” bit on it)
Anyway, not only is the music here all moody and unseasonal (amen to that) while catchy it also has some of the best lyrics you can shamelessly steal for your own holiday purposes. I mean, if you’re gonna write a Christmas card to someone you love, you could do much worse than saying “I love you more than a 1000 Christmases”, if you ask me.

“I’m Feelin rough
I’m Feelin raw
I’m in the prime of my life.
Let’s make some music
make some money
find some models for wives.”
Best song ever.
