MP3 Picks Of The Week: More Jens Edition

MP3 Picks Of The Week: More Jens Edition

February 24, 2008 by Svetlana Send to a Friend Send to a Friend

What kind of week is it in which you get new Jens Lekman, Diplo remixes Black Lips, Arcade Fire tackles Magnetic Fields and you get not one but SEVERAL new Bird and The Bee songs? A pretty Goddamn good one, in my book.

1. Jens Lekman, “New Directions”
Jens returns, and now with some new ever-so-trendy African beat influences the result of which New York Magazine calls:
better than anything put out by Paul Simon’s ska band, Vampire Weekend.

2. The Bird and the Bee, “Come As You Were” , “How deep is your love”
From their oh-so-darling EP of love songs that Inara and Greg (whom have consistently put out some of the most lovely tropicalia inflected lounge music of late) released on Valentine’s Day.

3. Arcade Fire, “All the Umbrellas in London” (Magnetic Fields cover)
If you missed Rob & Holly’s Magnetic Fields cover band last month at Iota (shame on you), then this should work well enough as a consolation prize. No toy pianos in sight though.

4. Violet Vector and the Lovely Lovelies “Can You Dig It?”
Yes, you definitely can.
While the band name suggest possible obnoxiousness, just do yourself a favor an be on the look-out for these Chapel Hill kids.

5. Food for Animals “Planet Stay”
I am only now linking to Pitchfork if I can be annoyingly smug about how we wrote about bands they write about before them.
In any case, score some more hip-hop for the young and the overthinking here (plus some live coverage) and prep yourself for the insanity that their show with The Apes and Kid Congo Powers will be this week

6. Black Lips “Veni Vidi Vicious” (diplo remix)
Dance.
And buy your Black Lips tickets now.

7. Dawn Landes “Bodyguard”
Hypnotically amazing. Dawn is on tour with Jason Isbell right now and if you missed her this past Friday at 930 club, this should officially give you some reason to be upset.
