Brightest Young Things

While we await for the BYT writing and photo staff to rise, shine and deal with their perma-hangover so they can tell you all about their weekend we are turning to our "variety show" type posts. So for now: 7 really, really good songs you may have missed on the music blogs last week.
Because I read them every day, and you (think) you don't have time: a digest.
Get your download on.

1.High Places "Golden"
Things to be excited about:
-the No Age/High Places/Abe Vigoda show at RNR next week
-High Places new album

Things not to be excited about
-the fact that the High Places new album does not roll out till end of September.

sample here:
MP3 via Gorrilla vs. Bear

2. The Wrens, "Sleep"
Good and for a good cause.
MP3 via Rock The Net

3. Annie, "Loco"
While her Spanish is limited, Annie is churning out yet another dancefloor perfect number from her new album.
MP3 via Idolator

4. Pearl Jam feat. Ace Frehley, "Black Diamond" (Kiss cover
You can't keep Eddie down.
MP3 via Stereogum

5. The Faint, "The Geeks Were Right"
I love the Faint. I feel that "Worked up so Sexual" and "I dissappear" should be played at every dance party ever. And well...after a break, a label dispute and a while....The Faint is back. Welcome. Too bad the "O.C." is no longer on as this would have made it onto the OST in no time.
MP3 via Have Fun Club

6. Beck feat. Chan Marshall, "Orphans"
As good as you'd expect it to be. (read: really good)

MP3 via Pitchfork

7. A video. Jay-Z covers Oasis. And throws 99 problems in

Word on the street is that it was an Oasis diss re:their disapproval of Jay-Z headling - not sure he cared about the tone or the words
