All of this week’s selections come from musicians that we can all pretty safely bet are NOT watching Superbowl right now.

1. She & Him, “Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?
All signs point to Zooey Deschanel and M.Ward’s new album being awesome. Not everyone gets struck with the Jared Leto “actor-in-a-band-by-default-must-blow” curse apparently.

and while we’re at it, also via Stereogum
2. Elbow, “Grounds for Divorce”
The rain in England makes for perfect rainy songwriting. Which will probably never make its way over to this side of the ocean. What else is new?

3. Jeff Tweedy, “Be Not So Fearful” (Bill Fay cover)
You don’t have Wilco tickets for the 26th/27th shows? Well, here is something that could either be
a. a consolation prize
or
b. make you madder about not having those tickets

4. Dead Meadow, “I’m Gone”
There is nothing here I can actually explain.
You just have to listen.
And eagerly await the new album.

5. Dog Years, “Ghetto Cross”
Bradford Cox (of Deerhunter, Atlas Sound and a soon to be BYT-interview victim) is a very, very busy man and here he pairs up with Cole Alexander (of Black Lips) and creates this monster of a garage-rock variety. And by monster, we mean awesome.

6. The Raveonettes, “Dead Sound”
The new album is just a few weeks and insane interviews away
MP3 here via Rolling Stone
7. Jena Malone and Her Bloodstains, “Crowded Fire Scenes”
Another actress in a band that does not suck. (Maybe we should change that rule to “if-you-are-male-and-and-actor-and-in-a-band-you-will-by-default-suck-but-if-you-are-a-girl-you-stand-a-chance”). For those who wanted to make out with Jena in Donnie Darko (or Saved or Secret Lives of Altar Boys or…) or those that had a crush on what PJ Harvey sounded like circa”down by the water”.
