In the spirit of “Run for Cover” weekend, this week’s pick of new songs available on the world wide interweb includes all and only covers. A lot of which involve the Beatles. So God help us all.

1 to 3. Polyphonic Spree does: EVERYONE
But doesn’t wear robes anymore apparently.
Take your 30 person band covering 5 person band pick:
Download away:
Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Band (Beatles, duh) http://www.badongo.com/file/3492637
Lithium (Nirvana) http://www.badongo.com/file/3492608
Wig in a Box (Hedwig! and the angry inch!) http://www.badongo.com/file/3492647
4.Sarah Warden does Dolly Parton
Because NO ONE does celebrity karaoke like classically trained opera singers. Even if Whitney did it before. And to death.
“I will always love you” : check it out here
5. Jon Bon Jovi does Leonard Cohen
Because this is obviously the week in which you should cover songs NO ONE has covered before. Or better. (can you spell: R.u.f.u.s.?)
Hallelujah: listen to it here
6. Beirut does Grizzly Bear
To quote “New York” Magazine: “Now if Arcade Fire would just cover Animal Collective, Brooklyn Vegan could take the rest of the week off.”
“Knife” check it out here
7. Aerosmith does John Lennon
Steven Tyler is rapping! But its ok, since it is for a good cause? Really?
(side note: (help) Save Darfur and listen to more Lennon covers by purchasing “Instant Karma” album here with “Snow Patrol”, Ben Jelen, Ben Harper and others…helping raise the Aerosmith set standard)
“Give Peace a chance” ready to download here
8. Ween does: Tears for Fears (sort of)
And finally: Not a cover per se, but a definite Tears homage/parody. I personally think it is AMAZING. AMAZING. From the “The Friends” EP.
“Slow down Boy” get it here

Actually, Rufus was covering John Cale’s (amazing) 1991 version of Hallelujah because they didn’t have the rights to include that version on the soundtrack even though it had been used in the film, so they asked Rufus to remake it. Also don’t forget Jeff Buckley’s powerful version as well.
