Hey hey, here’s my mp3 pick thingie! With all of the lazy electro remixes floating around on the web, Breakbot’s warm, summery take on dance music is refreshing as hell. His style is one part chopped up funk, one part filter disco and a big, sloppy dollop of pop hooks. Everything he touches turns to gold. This Data remix from last year is one of his most lush tracks. Like all Breakbot songs, it’s full of wild production ideas. At 1:39, he cuts in some blaring samples and uses them like horns – Prince famously did the same thing with synths. The reversed diva croon is gorgeous. And that bassline is so good it makes you want to slap your mama. His other remixes and original tracks are just as solid.
Breakbot has only put out one EP so far – buy it here – but I have a feeling his first full-length is going to blow people away.
