Fatback DJ’s are doing the songs this week, their party is this Sat @ LIV, thus making it the official after-party for our Green Masqurade -cale
This song has been brightening up my day … for days.
In 1979, Freedom, a band with Gospel at their core, dropped “Get Up and Dance” which got to 19 on the R&B charts after Sugar Hill Records picked it up. Freedom and this track were originally on Malaco Records, who put little grease behind Freedom. As soon as the record was released under Sugar Hill, lawyers went to work earning Malaco and their lawyers a nice payout. This song blew up again when sampled by KRS-One in “You Must Learn” then again with SWV’s “Anything”. Freedom recorded 2 more albums, which got little love then Joe Leslie, the lead singer died and the group dimantled. Thanks for the jam Freedom.
Come out to Fatback this Saturday at Liv for more party jams.
