Brightest Young Things

Un-fuckin-deniable. The second Sofia Coppola's Miss Cherie Dior commercial hit the airwaves I made it my instant mission to find the song in it and share it with you.

Predictably enough it turned out to be Brigitte Bardot's "Moi Je Joue" which granted is as delicious of a French confection as you will get this week but instead, I am unleashing onto you Stereo Total's cover.
A little cooler and barely 1:40 minutes of joy long.
Because we only want to do it better than the rest.

Thanx for doing this, I watched Fletch (?) and fell asleep on the couch at 11pm.

I think Alexandra would like this song. She probably has it.

No, it was not very, very funny. But watchable. Fletch and Fletch Lives were movies I had a passing familiarity with growing up but never actually sat down and watched beginning to end. With the announcement of the new Fletch movie coming out I rented the original. Lot's of standard issue 80's comedy qualities - 5 solid min in between each joke, distractingly ugly extras (that kid in the convertible? jesus christ), poor set design (the surgery room), etc. But it had some redeeming qualities, like a plot that was actually engaging (albeit unbelievable), some solid (albeit unfunny) supporting roles, better editing than you would expect, a theme song you went from loving, to getting sick of, to craving throughout the film, and some mildly amusing Chevy moments. There were maybe only two times I actually laughed out loud though, plus a few smiles, but plenty of cheesy eye rolls and bored glaze-overs. I mean, if you actually sit down and watch these movies, they're only funny due to nostalgia. Stripes, The Jerk, Planes/Trains, etc. sadly do not hold up on their own.

PS. I love Stereo Total! Check out Babystrich from Do The Bambi and the weird covers on My Melody

fletch was hilarious (i rememeber it that way, anyway). NOT fletch lives.

i agree about nostalgia, though. i thought fast times was so damn funny when i was really young and then i saw it like 3 years ago and thought it was the dumbest shit ever. evolution in movie making and movie taste.

IMO, stripes, though not believeable (it IS a movie), does hold up on it's own.

Moi je joue à joue contre joue/ I played against plays plays
Je veux jouer à joue contre vous/ I want to play to play against you
Mais vous, le voulez-vous?/ But you, do you want?
De tout coeur/ Wholeheartedly
Je veux gagner ce coeur à coeur/ I want to win this heart to heart
Vous connaissez mon jeu par coeur/ You know my game by heart
Alors défendez-vous/ So you defend

Sans tricher, je vous le promets/ Without cheating, I promise you
J'ai gagné, tant pis c'est bien fait/ I won, then it's well done
Vous êtes mon jouet/ You are my toy
A présent, ce ne sera plus vous mais toi/ Now it will not be you but you

Et tu feras ca t'apprendra/ And do it t'apprendra
N'importe quoi pour moi/ Anything for me

Sans m'en faire, je vais t'assurer/ Without me, I will make sure
Un enfer de griffes et de crocs/ A hell of claws and fangs
Tu crieras bientot "Au secours"/ You crieras soon "Help"
Alors décidant de ton sort/ While deciding your fate
Pour m'éviter quelques remords/ For some remorse m'éviter
Je t'aimerai plus fort/ I love you more strong
Oh oui plus fort/ Oh yes stronger
Oh oui oui oui/ plus fort Oh yes yes yes, Stronger
Oh la la.../ Oh la la ...

Good choice. Stereo Total's badass. Check out "L'Amour a trois" --it's equally as good as "Moi Je Joue":
