Long time running (40+ years!) prog outfit Yes are long overdue for hipster rediscovery. While about half of their output is abysmal, the other half is one gorgeous psychedelic masterpiece after another. With such a huge body of work, where to start? Well, with the early 70s of course. The Yes Album contains some of their best tracks like Starship Trooper and I've Seen All Good People, while Close to the Edge is where they reached the top of the prog mountain, but 1971's Fragile (the first with the Roger Dean artwork and moog master Rick Wakemen) contains the stunning opener Roundabout. With that rolling bassline, acoustic harmonics, scratchy guitars, weird lyrics even for Yes, epic keyboard solos, and Andersons angelic voice, it's so engaging you ADD types won't even notice it clocks in at 8 and a half minutes. They'll be at Warner Theatre next Sat, and the good thing is since they've never really stopped playing, they've still got mad chops. And the bad thing is, well, they've never really stopped playing.
