I figured one genre of music I’d probably never really get into was mariachi. I mean, they’re great in concept and kitsch value, but would I really queue something up on the ipod while driving to work? Especially a modern mariachi band? Well Nati Cano proved me wrong. His Mariachi Los Camperos are so great. Check out the vocals by Luis Damian on this track, I can’t help but sing along at the top of my white lungs. I believe it’s a traditional bolero, entitled La Malagueña (The Woman From Málaga), maybe someone who speaks Mexican (jk) can tell me what it’s all about. Just listened to it again, oh my god I love this guy.
Hey, I’ll be DJing this Saturday with Shea Van Horn of Mixtape @ Jimmy Vs, it’s free and we’re playing disco all night long, so stop by:

same song, different version from what’s in Kill Bill Vol. 1, Cheezey? oh yea. But I knew I’d heard those lyrics from somewhere, even if the kill bill version is a little more americanized/modernized or whatever you want to call it.

December 9, 2009 at 11:35 amDisco is not even kitschy, Cale. It even sucks, in a way.

Nice, Roy and Luis should team up.
@Bob
Good ear, it’s time to put the kill bill soundtrack back on the ipod.
@Ernest
My love for disco is not based on kitsch factor at all, my love is pure and deep and real and forever, how dare you suggest otherwise.
December 9, 2009 at 12:12 pmOh. I suppose it’s all right then. It seemed a little queer at first but now I’m convinced otherwise.
