And this is why:
Sure, David is in town this weekend, and whatnot but here is a story that gets things personal (because keeping things personal is where it's at, right?). I LOVE TALKING HEADS. If there is a song I could listen to non stop till the day I die I'd say it would be "Nothing but flowers". CALE ALSO LOVES TALKING HEADS. I am pretty sure if he could clone a band, that would be a band he'd clone.
All this love though leads to being suspicious of subsequent efforts by artists you love, because, COME ON, how could they be any better?
Best not to even try, right?
But somehow this past winter, someone persuaded me to listen to "Strange overtones" and I WAS SOLD. SOLD AND SOLD SOME MORE. I am pretty sure I walked to work all January to nothing but that song. I'd be on dates and make my date listen to it in a restaurant. I'd be in a bar and make my friends put headphones on for it. It was one of those songs that when you hear it, you INSTANTLY hear greatness, and it is good that it is this great because it proves that if you know your stuff, you can, in fact, know your stuff forever. You don't need to be some 22 year old whippersnapper to be relevant.
Byrne and Eno tell you WHAT'S UP.
