At this point, it is probably safe to say that the Gold Leaf parties are the most unstoppable dynamo of art/dancing and "positive vibes worldwideeeeee!!!!" around these parts (or at least I have a text message from 3 am this past Saturday informing me of that). Local artists at 7.30 pm. Bands to Follow. Dancing madness to ensue.
I personally missed the first two portions of the evening (damn the holiday party schedule) but by the time I arrived there at 1.30 am the place was still packed to the gills, and everyone from 21 year old art students to bands migrating post gig at 930 to it (Le Loup, Jukebox the Ghost), BYTteens, Will Eastman and Wash Post's Nightlife Agenda's staff were dancing with extra abandon to whatever Meistro and Chris Burns were spinning at that point.
And were still at it when I left 4 am-ish.
If you haven't been yet, shame on you.
So much action, we have a double photo set, just like last time.
First up: Ryan Wakeman captures the initial arts and more.
and then some outstanding party snaps by Bao Nguyen (http://www.baonguyenphoto.com/) who was whizzing through town just long enough for some fishbowl shots:
God loves a cheerful giver.

G. H. Mead loved the Gestures show. The drummer in photo #17 did an especially nice job on "Honey Bee Liquor Store."
sorry, but the artwork is pretty shitastic. gotta step up your game, "local artists".
Make that one-third of the Nightlife Agenda staff.
But the new city paper nightlife reporter was too busy taking notes to dance.
Hence: CPAll.
Simple equations folks.

My only comment is that BYO is tough. Next time, I'm going to BMOMO.
all i have to say is the rain couldn't stop us, the lack of BYO couldn't stop us, even the bad eighties in the main room couldn't stop us, at three am we were leaving and more people were coming... keep it up.
oooh snap that was a party.
Sssssooo damn good.
I'll let you in on my the good stuff.
Windsor Canadian Whiskey: $4.50
both me and the 1/3 of Washington Post's Nightlife Agenda staff thrive on degeneracy.
Bad 80s? You mean Paradise Garage classics? Best vibe of 2007 so far...
i did too dance!
it is ok, nightlife "reporting" is a fine art that requires looking like you're not reporting.
otherwise you get called out in comments on caughtintheflash posts and shit.
also-can people please stop taking notes at shows?
I think I already reprimanded Jason for that at RNR on Friday.
if you forget it, it probably wasn't worth remembering in to begin with.
best fuckin party in dc
I don't bother taking notes cuz I'm just gonna make stuff up anyway.
heard a rumor that after his 3 hour-long disco set, Chris Burns walked over to a Chinatown basement food establishment and blew his paycheck on a platter of crispy pigeon.
not a rumor, a LEGEND of reality
I've been informed that my image has been posted on BYT. This is upsetting to me for several reasons. First and foremost, I fear that it will be harmful to my bitter angry misanthropic old man street cred (BAMOMSC) to be seen in such proximity to the happy dancing beautiful people. Secondly, I look ~12 in the pictures, which is off the mark by a full fifty years or so. Lastly, there is no picture of the face I made when Collin dropped Jess' huge ride cymbal on my foot, edgewise, from a height of at least three feet, nearly severing my toes, which picture I had hoped to use to terrify small children and make them cry, thereby enhancing my BAMOMSC. My BAMOMSC is very important to me, it's all that I have in this world. Expect to hear from my lawyers.
You're so cranky, Bob. At least you're not wearing a hobo's snowcap.
No, I'm wearing a snowman's hobohat.
I had a good time. Hooray!
