Hirshhorn after hours SELLS OUT EVERY TIME. And this is why: it is bigger, badder, cooler than any bar in DC (duh), and drinking in the presence of art definetly makes people feel better about drinking. And these days, who doesn’t want to feel better about drinking, we ask you? Even if they make pay 10 dollars, to stand in line to get a ticket to stand in line to get a drink to stand in line to…you get the picture.
The scene was (and always is) very “See and Be Seen” and the dresses are carefully chosen, the hairstyles carefully tousled (yipster style), and everyone precariously cradles their 5 dollar glass (from a 5 dollar bottle) of wine and looks over their shoulder to see who is looking at them.
Joel faced a much more camera willing-and-wanting crowd (they did not buy those cocktail dresses for nothing) and captured some of the magic for you:

The only problem with After Hours was that it took hours to get a drink. The lines were unforgivable. Seriously, Hirshhorn, set up a few more bars. Duh.
