Brazilian Night @ Saint Ex

Brazilian Night @ Saint Ex

April 18, 2008 by Dakota Send to a Friend Send to a Friend

Patrick K. of Ra Ra Rasputin was celebrating his birthday at St. Ex last night, gotta give it up to anyone who puts up a three day event on facebook to celebrate his day of birth. DJ extraordinaire Neal Becton was spinning his eclectic mix of Brazilian rhythms, and the mojitos were being consumed… or were they caipirinhas? (I can’t spell that, nor can I tell the difference…)

The dance party was hot. Happy birthday Patrick.

I showed up at midnight and there was a line of fratholes to get downstairs. They need to start implementing a door policy

luna green Says:

caipirinha:

2 tsp granulated sugar
8 limes wedges
2 1/2 oz cachaca

Muddle the sugar into the lime wedges in an old-fashioned glass. Fill the glass with ice cubes. Pour the cachaca into the glass. Stir well.

mojito:

3 fresh mint sprigs
2 tsp sugar
3 tbsp fresh lime juice
1 1/2 oz light rum
club soda

In a tall thin glass, crush part of the mint with a fork to coat the inside. Add the sugar and lime juice and stir thoroughly. Top with ice. Add rum and mix. Top off with *chilled* club soda (or seltzer). Add a lime slice and the remaining mint, and serve.

the barman was serving caipirinha with soda!!(!!?!!). apparently, americans can’t take it. i mean, that’s what he told me.

mine was original, tho. no soda, thanks.

I *thought* that shit was too sweet. (Actually Jackie pointed it out to me. Having a girl point out that *your* drink is too sweet = pwned.) Why TF were they pouring such bullshit? Glad I stuck to Red Stripes for most of the night.

Those caipirinhas were weak and gross.

I’ll stick with (free?!) Peroni next time.

Svetlana Says:

i think the main problem with the caipirinhas there is that they pre-make them in anticipation of all the chaos.
so they are just kinda flat.

also-do you all remember when 2 years a go Jenna Bush showed up at St.EX and it was such a giant deal she ventured into the whole 14th/u street area, and ST.EX got overwhelmed by all the super prepmongers from Georgetown so for a while they had that sign outside that said:

“NO POPPED COLLARS ALLOWED”

they should maybe bring that back.
because it was heeeeelarious.

Next year it’s gonna be 4 days.

But in all seriousness, last night was ridiculous. I was hurtin’ on the bus back to NY.

kat Says:

Caipirinhas are the liquid equivalent of popped collars. Never order a drink that requires two full limes to be muddled when there’s a line three deep to get to the bar. Channel the old Saint Ex you all are lusting over and order a beer and a shot…

DJ Neville C Says:

FYI - the caipirinha issue has been addressed. We now have two bartenders on for Brazilian night which helped immensely last month. The caipis were good and punchy once again.
Not sure what we can do about the collars but we’ll try and keep it real.

Neal
