As only luck of the DC draw would have it: after a weekend of sunstrokes, pool parties, Nouveau Riches and Au Revoir Simone sightings, when all you want to EVER do is stay in on a Monday night, eat some fresh strawberries and maybe venture out to see UP! (because it looks amazing) the stars align in such a fashion that there is actually 11 perfectly legit and sort of must-see events on the BYT event calendar. SOMETIMES a Friday does not offer so much.
So, no escaping the inevitable.
Here is what’s up, category by category:
The Unmissable:
Obviously, Grizzly bear and Here we Go Magic build a ship and sail it straight to a sold out 930 club show.
I bought these tickets 35 months a go and cannot wait for tonight. I only wish somehow we could have this show could be on a open field with a symphony in the background. NEXT TIME.
Check out our Here we Go Magic feature here

Our plethora of Grizzly Bear coverage here (all by John Foster):
-the interview
-the synagogue live show review
-the veckatimest judging the cover by its cover

The Inevitable Hangover:
(Service) Industry people have to party on an “off” night so no wonder the Jameson Bartender’s ball is at RNR hotel on a Monday night. On top of copious amounts of whiskey (free and otherwise) and being around people who keep you happy at weekends the line up includes: US Royalty, New Rock Church of Fire and Nouveau Riche DJs. If this was a Saturday you’d barely survive it. Let alone Monday.

The Good Monday Shows
With these 2 juggernauts occupying most of the show going bodies in DC it would be a shame to see these local acts not see their due today, because all 3 of these are bound to be quality:
-Wild Fictions reunite @ The Red & The Black
-Carol Bui sets out to break some hearts @ IOTA
-and Screen Vinyl Image sets out to break some eardrums @ The Black Cat

And the Cinematic Alternative
UP! should be everyone’s first movie choice this week but otherwise we have:
-The HULK (2?) being shown on the Crystal Screen (on the green). Free. @ Dusk.
-I love you man is only 1 dollar and showing @ Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse
and
-if you prefer to stay more cerebral about your movie going choices and NOT LEAVE the district the Euro-Asia short movie festival is the way to go.
+some other stuff I’m sure I am forgetting.

Up is indeed great. Don’t bother with 3D.
