Wednesday is This Week’s Thursday

Wednesday is This Week’s Thursday

May 20, 2009 by Svetlana

I know Memorial day is not till Monday but really: What kind of a Sucker is not taking Friday off? (in an ideal universe you’re taking Thursday off too, but we all know this is not an ideal universe). Plus, Last days of Disco is out on DVD finally, the Passion Pit full length hit the shelves yesterday (and the boys went ON A BOAT to celebrate), if you were nice and last minute about your taxes, there is a refund check burning a hole in your pocket and the Wednesday calendar is chockablock full of stuff.
So-lets go:

  • First and foremost: Beyond Downtempo Happy Hour is no more but instead of it you get What We Do is Secret so not all is lost on the Wednesday cheap food and drink front.

Also in the early hours:

  • A free movie @ the Japanese Cultural center
  • An UNGODLY early show @ Big Bear Cafe (7pm, AND I need to get to Bloomingdale?) featuring a roster of BYT “staff” favorites including: Wham City finest Video Hippos! and Screaming Females! (read this and this to mentally prep yourself-ok?)
  • Pecha Kucha takes on The Embassy of Finland this month, with droves of people (mostly pretending) to care about sustainability presentations showing up to drink complementary beer and wine and oogle each other.

And later:

  • Liechtenstein are in town. The record is coming out June 9th on Slumberland records (home of everyone you love blog buzzing about these days from The Pains of Being Pure at Heart to Crystal Stilts), the interview is here for you to peruse and the show is @ Velvet lounge for you to enjoy and claim “i knew them back when” dibs on. Terrific and seminal Lorelei is on the bill too. So, lets listen to some Cocteau Twins while we’re at it
  • Which you should follow up with the latest edition of My Favorite Dress @ ST.EX. IT HAS BEEN A WHILE since Holly and Kathryn played pop music of the jangley and other varieties for you, and they’ve been missed. I hope to hear this song:

Plus:

Just don’t forget to pack.
K?

Thank god for that news. One of my favorite movies of all time.

Josh: [referring to Lady and the Tramp] There is something depressing about it, and it’s not really about dogs. Except for some superficial bow-wow stuff at the start, the dogs all represent human types, which is where it gets into real trouble. Lady, the ostensible protagonist, is a fluffy blond Cocker Spaniel with absolutely nothing on her brain. She’s great-looking, but – let’s be honest – incredibly insipid. Tramp, the love interest, is a smarmy braggart of the most obnoxious kind – an oily jailbird out for a piece of tail, or… whatever he can get.
