I don’t know if anyone really cares who a couple of people in a stock photo for a new DJ night are.
They might though…
September 8, 2008 at 12:36 pmphew! i wouldn’t have known those dancers were of the neo variety without the tip. oh MY!
did you find out who they were?!?!?!?
September 8, 2008 at 12:56 pmlily, it’s great that you swing dance, really. it’s something i enjoy also, though i’m not a competitive dancer. Perhaps if you did something that made a difference in this world, people would care more.
why do you make comments like that all the time?
I’m a cosmetologist but you’ll never see me going, “oh that chick has a great cut, i’ll go find out who did it.” I work in that industry and hardly follow the reputable stylists, some of which are household names. am i making my point? I think so.
people don’t know who Schoomaker is, so why would they care who swing dancers are?
September 8, 2008 at 1:35 pmanyway, now that i’ve had my rant, i hope this event become a monthly so that i can attend when I’m home.
September 8, 2008 at 1:37 pmActually those people are both prostitutes but don’t ask me how I know this.
September 8, 2008 at 2:57 pmThat’s me (Tricia Iveson) and Jeff Booth competing in the Lindy Hop division at the US Open Swing Dance Championships in 1998. Another angle on this shot was sold to the Orange County Register, where we appeared on page 1 the next day. We both still Lindy Hop (though with different partners) competitively. Neither of us is a prostitute in the traditional sense though we will happily prostitute our dancing talents to base events for a bit of chump change.
September 8, 2008 at 4:50 pmTricia i love it
and i thought that was Jeff’s hair!
hence why i posted it on SODC
awesome
as for the rest of you
keep on drinking and spewing your hater-ade
it suits you
nice to know you look down on art
as an inspiration that can make a difference in this world
art bigot
Lily, I’m not an art bigot. i appreciate art in all it’s forms, though I do have favorites, just like everyone else. i just don’t see why you think that everything you do/care about is relevant to the rest of us. your comments hardly ever express an opinion that is about whatever the thread is about, you typically just talk about yourself.
i should stop this, i’m contradicting myself in giving you the attention you seek.
September 8, 2008 at 9:36 pmone last thing, swing dancing is something people do/watch for enjoyment. sure dancers may raise money for charities, but watching swing dancing hardly evokes any sort emotion that makes me want to go out and make the world a better place. it just makes me wish that i could do that.
i’m anticipating someone going after me for making this statement generally, no, i’m just talking about swing dancing.
also, we’ve all seen swing kids and know about it being part of a revolutionary movement, but that died with the war.
September 8, 2008 at 9:42 pmactually my posts are always relevant about something in the thread/article, in this case - the picture, it’s not like i’m posting non sequiturs
also i was wondering about the picture to see:
1) who was in it
2) where the organizers got it
3) if the subjects were cool with having their image/likeness being used to promote this night, without permission or compensation
please dig your grave further and display your ignorance with generalities about something you obviously don’t know much about, look into swing dancing beyond some one-off movie in the ’90’s and see what dancers do to make this world a better place
e.g. rebuilding the city of New Orleans working with musicians in the birthplace of jazz
e.g. getting kids off the street to learn tap, swing and other jazz vernacular dances in school to inspire them to make the world a better place, in cities, in countries, all over the world
e.g. reviving an art that’s full of joy and not putting down a race, gender, anyone in any way - which can’t be said about some popular forms of mainstream art nowadays
seriously, stop drinking haterade
it’s stunting your brain and its potential for intelligent discourse
Lily, are you saying that you really were checking to see if those people were OK with a likeness being used? Were you going to demand the organizers stop? Suggest the dancers sue? What are you getting at?
September 9, 2008 at 11:01 amLily,
you forgot the most important accomplishment of swing dancing.
e.g. setting nerds up with an excuse to touch someone of the opposite sex.
seriously though, this is about the stupidest argument i’ve ever seen on BYT. and there have been some stupid ass arguments before. so, lets just all drop it. let the swing dancers go back to rebuilding New Orleans while they relive the good ol’ days of 1998 (you know, when everyone was reliving the good ol’ 1940’s.)
Me, i’m just gonna keep on drinking my haterade (is that hyphenated or what?) which i drink for the electrolytes, obviously.
Swing Heil!!
September 9, 2008 at 11:13 amAlso can we ban the word “haterade” on here? It’s way overused. Just because someone doesn’t agree with someone else doesn’t make them a hater. Just because someone doesn’t like certain things doesn’t mean they drink “haterade.”
Not everyone agrees on everything.
September 9, 2008 at 11:22 amTHEY JUST WANNA DANCE!!!!!!
September 9, 2008 at 11:23 amgeez Michael, always wanting to ban words, I see you’re getting your daily recommended amount of haterade.
I agree on everything!
September 9, 2008 at 11:31 amAnd people. I suggest we ban people, like you, Chad, what with the trying to get BYT in trouble by posting a party flyer with an image that you didn’t get approval for posting.
September 9, 2008 at 11:41 amlook, i don’t know anything about that flyer. i don’t know anything about that party except that i’m sposed to play music at it evidently. judging by the other folks on the flyer though, it looks like it should be a good time.
BTW, all those times i wrote “haterade” before, i meant to write GATORADE. sorry, i’m a bad writer (hell, look at how i just spelled supposed.)
September 9, 2008 at 11:51 ami was just making conversation and having fun as usual ;-)
i have no right to sue and on the contrary, i’d think Tricia and Jeff would be flattered and might just show up for the party
both party vets of the Black Cat for almost a decade or more now?
i’ll ask Jeff at Jam Cellar tonight and Tricia through her hubby
thanks to Chad, Cale and Michael for the added elements of awesome
September 9, 2008 at 12:24 pmof course none of this changes the fact
that i am extremely annoying
and go off on stupid tangents to let people know
what i know
who i know, what i know about them
and what i’m doing
and i don’t realize things like
nobody is interested in my father and
DIY doesn’t stand for “daddy is yummy”
and has nothing to do with my daddy’s products
a picture on a flyer doesn’t mean
it’s swing dance night
my personal workout and dance schedule
are of no interest
to anyone
ever
but i will check to make sure nobody wants to sue your asses
i’m calling my father
that last post obviously wasn’t me
couldn’t even rock my style of posting prose
sketchy to know i have a stalker now
yikes
Jesus. You guys sound FUN. I hope you can come out tonight!!!
September 10, 2008 at 8:39 amI agree with my fantastically sassy DJ partner (I’m assuming that last comment was her…): Everybody come and ARGUE TO THE DEATH about silly-ass shit while we play some records! Whee!
September 10, 2008 at 2:15 pmNo I’m not a DJ, except at home. Just super awesome.
September 10, 2008 at 4:25 pm

those are neo swing dancers
September 8, 2008 at 12:14 pmi’ll find out who
oh my
