The Baltimore Weekly Re-Up

The Baltimore Weekly Re-Up

September 11, 2008 by Greg

This Saturday is jam-packed.  In fact, there are so many events, it might just redefine jam-packed.  My brain literally cannot process all of this.  I will definitely be at Small Sur on Friday, Hampdenfest then the 8-Bit festival on Saturday and Taxlo Monday.  And probably hopping in and out of various other events.

Friday Sept 12th

Small Sur (solo) @ Paper Kingdom

Remote wilderness folkie Bob Keal, front-man of Small Sur, has a house-show.  At his house.

Reaction Monthly Dance Party @ the Sidebar

Mods rejoice, get your monthly dance on at this party.

Saturday Sept 13th

Synth DIY / Chiptune Festival & 8-Bit Invasion @ the Hexagon

Quick primer here.  Hope to see some of you there.  It should be a rocking good time.

Hampdenfest @ Falls Road/the Avenue

3 stages of great Baltimore music (I recommend Low Moda, Thrushes), tons of food and drink.  Lots of fun and great people.  Sans the apparent sell-out atmosphere of Honfest.

Wonderland Festival II feat. Andy Abelow, Mark Brown, Scary River, Air Waves + more @ the Copycat Annex

Eats & drinks & a wide variety of music.  Wham City style.

BSO Season Opening Gala @ the Meyerhoff

It’s a party Bitches!  This time, Yo Yo Ma is running this shit with Maestra Alsop.  Get down with true OG’s like Bernstein and Tchaikovsky.

Naked Baltimore exhibit opening + bands @ Metro Gallery

Metro Gallery has been closed for a bit, some renovations and the new bar is almost finished off.  That means party time with a new exhibit that has lots of nudity.

J Roddy Walston & the Business @ the Ottobar

Not really a draw relative to everything else, but always a good, reliable live show.

Lafayette Gilchrist & The New Volcanoes @ the Creative Alliance

Impeccable jazz artistry at the fabulous Patterson.

Microkingdom @ Talking Head

After seeing Oxes perform at Whartscape, I’ve got a huge hankering to see some of their members blow some minds in the virtuosic ensemble Microkingdom.

Reggie & the Full Effect @ the Recher

Pop-punk staple plays show of final tour at one of the worst venues in Baltimore.  Film at 11.

3 Doors Down, Hinder, Finger Eleven  @ Merriweather

*bile* *puke* *spit*  Save your money and time…I mean, my god.  Would anyone actually pay for this tripe?

Sunday Sept 14th

Thrust Lab, Smart Growth @ Joe Squared

Pizza + shows = win.

Wayne Newton @ the Lyric

Dude is smooth.  Can’t argue with “Danke Schoen” and a Vegas performing rep miles long.

Love & Perish @ Talking Head

End of summer dance frenzy, courtesy of the Talking Head/Sonar crew.

Monday Sept 15th

Taxlo feat. Tussle @ Talking Head

This party will likely be everything you need to burn off some calories and work out those hormones and dancing itches.  Tussle lays down some smooth and funky indie grooves.

Maps & Atlases @ the Ottobar

There’s just something so care-free and joyous about Maps & Atlases, you can’t help but love them and their math-y tendency to musical digressions.

The Love Or Perish show at Talking Head on Sunday isn’t a dance party. I mean, if you wanna dance, you can but L.O.P. is a punk rock band from NYC w/ ex-Peechees members, and there are DJs (from Ratsize + Vincent Black Shadow) but probably playing punk and rock n roll. Also, it’s FREE to get in and 2 for 1 drinks all night. Love Or Perish rule so don’t sleep.

Also, since you “meant to put Feadz on here”, would you mind? K THX BYE!
