Naturally, with summer and camps looming over our heads it was inevitably going to be a "Wet Hot American Summer" themed "Best Weekend Bets" today.
Just deal with it.
Now, the only summer camp I ever went to was government sponsored linguistics camp for gifted children in Serbia which, needless to say, GOT REALLY, REALLY C-to-the-RAAAAAZY in between all that paper writing on latin conjunctions and slang phonetics but I can immerse myself in the spirit of things as well as the next person. Hopefully.
Anyway, the prognosis is looking good, weather wise, and not too shabby event wise, so, here we go:
THURSDAY
On the cerebral tip:
-Jonathan Safran Foer is at the Sixth and I. Everything may or may not be illuminated.
-Civilian Art Projects is hosting a talk by Erick Jackson and Ken Ashton. Refreshments will be provided.
On the (different kinds of) nostalgia tip:
-Nina Persson's new band A Camp is playing 930 club
-The Temptations are @ Kennedy center
On sort-of-celebrity spotting tip:
-Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet's daughter's band is @ LIV above Bohemian Caverns tonight. They'll be playing with Roots this summer and she was in Vogue last month, so-you know.
And on the dance party end:
-Level Up is at Asylum and there are free drinks to be had @ 95 Live
Work on your craft skills:
FRIDAY
Leave work early, drink with us and Flying Dog @ Marvin (first 50 people to mention BYT & Flying dog get a free beer) and then sit at home and cry over the fact that 1990s cancelled their RNR Hotel show. WTF.
Alternatives to tonight include:
-artomatic
-going to LODA
-checking out The Willowz
-moisturizing profusely in preparation for pool time Saturday
-watching Brothers Bloom or UP!
-sleeping. for a change.
SATURDAY
BAM!
POOL PARTY SUMMER IS HERE. From noon and onwards BYT and Beautiful swimmers will be doing awesome stuff (which will ALSO be relaxing) @ the Capitol skyline pool. COME.COME.COME. COME EVERY WEEKEND. k? k.
Then later on:
-if you're looking for a cool indie rock night our #1 girl crushes Au Revoir Simone are @ RNR hotel (along with The Antlers and Jeffrey Lewis, making it a triple approved BYT show).
-and if you're looking for a rager to just keep wearing your swimsuit at-then Nouveau Riche is calling your name. As per usual.
SUNDAY
Check out the H Street Country Club, which just opened this week.
Eat food.
Take naps.
Cry over the fact that 30 rock season is over and that you don't have that to watch on DVR (but you did tape "So you think you can dance" on Thursday, right?), go to the official Coolout Rooftop kick off party and then mentally prep yourself for the magic that that Grizzly Bear show is going to be on Monday.
God loves a cheerful giver.
oh yeah, leave comments with stuff i (inevitably) missed
will there be any super-secret pizza parties this weekend?
Friday night: go to Artomatic and share your secret with Frank Warren from PostSecret

Josh Wink @ Muse Friday night - cost money, but somewhat cheaper if you RSVP here: http://mnmlife.com/guestlist
NIc Fanciuli @ unFURtunately, Fur nightclub Saturday.. great DJ/producer. Only worth it if you can deal with the 18+ shenanigans, long lines, and the overpriced cover- When are they opening FIVE back up? That was at least a happy median
Buncha punk bands at the Girl Cave in petworth on sunday at 7 that sound like this

fuckyeah
A terrific explosion. Pedro’s computer blown to smithereens. Pedro miraculously unscathed but refuses to type ever since, has a maniacal phobia of computers in fact. Divine intervention. Necessary prevention.
um. AIR GUITAR?
friday night?
9:30????!
@Felps - Five is now a sports bar
pedro, if a bunch of byt scenesters show up at the girl cave they will not only kill the mood, but they might get themselves killed.
@ Felps....
if you are looking for good music - down ass people - and a cheap cover - come to loda: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=646763312#/event.php?eid=95971444496&ref=ts
