BYT Empire

Brightest Young Things

All right, you win. You win. I give. I'll say it. I'll say it. I'll say it. DESTINY! DESTINY! NO ESCAPING THAT FOR ME! DESTINY! DESTINY! NO ESCAPING THAT FOR ME!

No escaping the weekend.
Nope.
It is here, it is here to get you and rumor has it: weather should be mostly extra pleasant so moisturizing your legs and assorted other limbs in preparation for bearing them in public may be in order.

Events to bear limbs at, in handy day by day form:

THURSDAY
The big jig this weekend is the Forward festival. Kick off party is tonight and Fitsum has been saddled with corresponding to you all the details of secret locations, not so secret lineups etc etc. So-keep checking BYT, because it will come in handy.

Aside from that we WHOLEHEARTEDLY recommend the PREE show @ The Cat
and as always, hanging out with Neal and as many caipirinhas as you can balance at St. EX

FRIDAY

Now, no hip shows this weekend.
None.
All hip bands are are the hip SXSW (along with half of our photo staff) playing to hip crowds, drinking hip drinks, sleeping in their hip vans....etc etc

So, you have to settle for the Trachtenberg family sideshow players @ Velvet, who, while not necessarily hip, are so cool it hurts my brain to just think of them. Peter will have a sassy interview for you to read tomorrow.

In other news-the now unhip (?) Ting Tings sold out 930 club, there is a MILLION art openings which you can find in the calendar and the Forward festival rages on.

Oh, and a new restaurant opens on 14th and T. Looks hip. Gavin is DJing the inaugural night. It is called "Policy". We're still deciding whether or not we hate that name. With a passion.

SATURDAY

Around BYT parts, this Saturday has been referred to as "the best day ever".
Help the economy by shopping first at Bored of Trade and then Redeem, maybe even riding your hybrid bike in the sun in between locales.
Then proceed to the Hamiltonian gallery opening for their 6th show, hobnob, eat dinner somewhere convenient, maybe squeeze yourself into the Gibson while its still on the early side, run to see Mountain Goats at the Synagogue and then hightail it to Fatback, now at LIV (upstairs @ Bohemian Caverns) and bigger and better then ever before.

Other options include:
-the Fez & Mustache Party
-Blisspop with Miami Horror (which goes on till 4am)
-and the ongoing Forward festival

Not sure where you will change from daytime clothes to the nighttime clothes in that whole timespan but where there is a will, there is a way.

SUNDAY

Are you even alive by now?
Because I am not.

God loves a cheerful giver.

PS. Young Frankenstein is overrated.

EVERYTHING is overrated. Aside from John Waters. He's not overrated, and he is giving a lecture on Saturday.

Am I the only one who can't believe Morgan Geist is coming to Comet Pizza on Saturday? Mr. Unclassics himself doing his thing in a pizza place = awesomely weird night.

Did you really forget to pick Morgan Geist (of Metro Area fame) at Comet for Friday?

Big unhappy face.

Cale, I'm shocked. Really. The cinematography is luminous and lustrous. I love it. The scene on the steps when Madeline Kahn arrives at the castle kills me every time. And, "Oh sweet mystery of life - at last I've found you"? Nothing? Man, I love that movie.

sorry - this was a call to a shit show convo going on right now, was only referring to it being funny. Which it is not. Still good and enjoyable to watch, but no laughing out loud.
