Brightest Young Things

These are the signs that you should stay in on a Thursday: all your clothes are finding their way out of your closet and none are making their way back in, but assembling into a tower of power on the chair near your bed, on the floor near your bed, and lets face it, on your bed itself. You wake up every morning, take a Tylenol extra strength just to open your eyes and require a quad shot caramel macchiato just to make your way into your office. You've been out every singe night this week and this morning your face was assembled into that unique, hopefully never again repeated position that only the fact that you had a glass of absinthe and a glass of beaujolais in each of your hands at 1:30 am on a Wednesday could explain.
If the above describes your week, I understand.
Then, on top of that, imagine the above describing your week and then waking up at 6 am after that 1:30 am snapshot I just sent you to write "Best Weekend Bets".
No, you probably don't understand.

Having said that it is FREEZING outside and you need a very definitive directory of where to go so as to waste minimum amounts of time pondering things and dilly-dallying on street corners.
So, here goes:

THURSDAY
Have not had enough wine and France this week?
Fear not! More is on its way:
- Alliance Francaise is hosting their soiree carte blanche at Phillips collection tonight. Should be special.
-There is more free wine (and free Chris Burns) to be had at Napoleon
and
-still, wine power hours are on at the Corcoran to celebrate Avedon's show and your drinking habits.

Sick of wine and France?
Go to BRAZIL. Don't look back (following up a beaujolaishangover to with a caipirinha hangover WILL prove that what does not kill you makes you stronger).

As far as shows go-Phosphorescent all the way.

FRIDAY
Three things I am 100% excited for:
1. Bear Hands & French Kicks show (rumors of an afterparty abound. ask the right people. or something)
2. Fatback @ RED LOUNGE.
3. American History Museum REOPENING

However, everything from (more) Wine and Cheese to Louis CK to US Royalty to more fotoweek stuff to staying home and watching "Rudy" is a completely valid option/possibility.

SATURDAY
In an ideal world you wake up at 10 am and go see "Twilight" at 11:30 along with tweens who are scratching their necks till they bleed, or whatever it is that tweens who are into (vaguely Christian) vampire movies are into. Then you take myself to the Front Page or Red Rocks or Finn McCools or anywhere else where they will give me a pitcher instead of a glass of a mimosa and you talk about this movie for (quite possibly) HOURS. Because I feel it would be that kind of a movie (have not read the books, but have definitely done wikipedia research).

Then you go home, take a nap, scope out some art openings (I promise there will be an itinerary tomorrow) put on something that accentuates my neck (because you know, its all about "asking for it") and probably go to this. or this. Hopefully someone bites (you)

SUNDAY
Wake up next to someone realizing that you are in love but that that love can never be because you are human and they are a vampire and if you get married (which is the only way you can get to have sex, since you are good Christian vampire folk) by book 3 you may end up having a vampire baby who will try to eat you alive but you will still love it. Or something like that. But you still get to be on an EW cover with your chest all powdered and your cheekbones extra accentuated by contouring make-up, so I guess that makes up for it, a little.

So instead, you decide to go and spend some money on some awesome new neon colored clothing (very anti-vampire aesthetic), or go to a house show, or just band aid that poor neck of yours.

Sounds good?
You have something better (or non-Twilight or France obsessed to say? Say it.

As an alternative to Twilight, I would suggest you see Let the Right One In. It's also about young vampire love, but instead of being Mormon-y, it's creepy and Swedish.

CANNOT WAIT FOR THE AMERICAN HISTORY MUSEUM TO REOPEN.

or, for that matter, for "Twilight".

I second Alan's recommendations. Let the right one in might well be one of the best foreign films of the year.

I agree with Awesome.
Best weekend bet is the fact that SPSD, Imperial China, Caverns, and friggin Hammer No More the Fingers are doing two free shows Friday and Saturday! One of them on my campus!

Oh, and Let the Right One In is probably the best vampire film to date! Burn down the hot topic

I'll be seeing Let the Right One In tonight because while I love vampire movies, I hate teen romance melodramas.

Also, if people want more Swedish vampire action track down a copy of Frostbiten. It runs along the same lines as 30 Days of Night except that its actually really good and funny at the same time.
