Best Weekend Bets: now with forced topical humor!
It’s an “oh fuck” kind of weekend…
Thursday
- Cruise over to the National Harbor and see Robert Swan, Officer of the British Empire, talk about how he was the first person to walk on both the North and South Poles, and how we are destroying the possibility for any others to accomplish this feat.
- Of Montreal at 9:30 club = sold out.
- If you’re a good person you’ll go to SAFE & Sound, a benefit concert for Survivors and Advocates for Empowerment (SAFE) in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This is definitely a good month to raise awareness about domestic abuse as I’m sure a lot of Wall Street wives are “opening car doors” and “hitting the banister” with their faces.
with performances by:
Laura Burhenn
Olivia & The Housemates
Lode Runner
The Spiritual Machine (formerly KOKO)
- Or you can be another kind of person and go to the LAST SHORTS EVER!!! We will miss the age of Shorts much like we will miss the age of the dollar. To commemorate the historic run of Shorts here is a brief retrospective from the comments section of Shorts-related posts:
“Dumb. Seriously dumb.”
“Asylum has now officially jumped the shark.”
“who doesn’t love shorts?”
“faux-lesbianism or girls pretending to like kissing girls when they’re just doing it for show - is fucking whackity whackity whack.”
“man tit flashing! YESSSSSS!”
“’bout to blow up the balls! Long live SHORTS!!!!”
“Most fun I have ever had without pants on.”
Friday
- Middle Distance runner plays their 100th show at Iota - at least some entity is still rallying.
- Since you probably don’t have your shit together enough to have gotten tickets to the sold out Girl Talk at 9:30 Club, I highly recommend going to the new Party House with Bishop and Burns at Eyebar, Bishop providing live synth overdubs to Burns’ beats. A sight to be seen and a sound to be heard for all.
Saturday:
- Start out the night at the grand opening of Jacqueline Ionita’s new Hamiltonian Gallery on U Street, music provided by Gavin.
- Once you’re warmed up, it’s only a hop, skip, and a jump over to DC9’s Feedback with Paserock, Stereo Faith, and Philly’s Pink Skull .
- By some miracle, a show at the 930 club this week isn’t sold out, it just so happens to be an amazing show, Wire.
- Since you haven’t moved more than a few blocks all night, round up a crew and head on over to NY Ave Warehouse for late night.
Sunday:
- For those of you who still have the dance in you, Walter Meego and Ra Ra Riot are at the Black Cat.
- For those of you who feel as partied out as a broker, go to and Cool Out with Adrian Loving at The Beacon Hotel.
- Watch Mad Men and prepare for the markets to open.
